ASA Tire Systems Launches New Handheld Mobile Software Suite

NASHUA , NH (November 1, 2005) - ASA Tire Systems announced a new handheld mobile software suite of products today. This addition to the product line, ASA’s Mobility Suite, will allow independent tire dealers to operate their business efficiently and wirelessly.

The maiden product in the suite of software, the Total Inventory Management System, will help independent tire dealers produce more accurate inventory counts that reduce shortages, improve accuracy, and eliminate common “fell off the truck” excuses. It will wirelessly process physical inventory, receipts, inventory usage, transfers, and ship & bill tasks. No longer is the need to “dock” a device to download or upload data. The new portable, handheld devices will feature the “always-on connectivity” capability – allowing any user to be on-line, real time with its host computer. Receiving instant data will help to keep operating costs down by eliminating the need for redundant data entry and by allowing tire dealers to streamline business processes, which ultimately increase productivity.

The new ASA mobility suite operates through a wi-fi network, handheld pda’s and portable printers, and software that will interface the handheld units seamlessly with an ASA business server. Today, the handheld devices will scan and process tire inventory bar codes; in the future, these devices will also be able to recognize RFID’s (embedded tags) to speed up inventory processes even more.

Wayne Croswell, president of ASA Tire Systems, remarks, “ASA’s Mobility Suite puts the power in the hands of your workers.  With full advantage of wireless technology, Mobility Suite removes double entry of data thus eliminating input errors, improves accuracy of data with the scanning of bar codes and updates your system real-time while taking physical inventories, adding parts to work orders in the shop, receiving inventory and much more.”

Always keeping an eye on the future, ASA is currently developing this suite of software to ultimately process emergency service work orders to help reduce lost tickets, capture vital information in the field, provide roadside electronic signature capture, and facilitate the update of data upon a technician’s return to the shop or via mobile phone. Other product evolutions in the forecast include mechanic work in process functions, car side order processing for work order creation at the vehicle, scanning of VIN, key tag, and plate number, mileage capture, tire fitment lookup, and vehicle history. For commercial tire dealers, future releases of the software boast handheld devices for drivers for delivery of retreads and new tires and ordering of new tires for “Ready Racks,” and the placement of work orders.
