ASA Tire Systems Grants Superior Tire $25k in Bailout Funds
NASHUA, NH (April 28, 2009) - ASA Tire Systems' awarded Superior Tire of Orange, TX, $25,000 in funds from the $1M Tire Dealer Bailout Program at the 2009 Texas Tire Dealers Association Annual Convention held in San Antonio in April 2009.
Six months after the devastation of Hurricane Ike, Superior Tire is still rebuilding their business like many across the Texas coastline. Hurricane Ike was the third most destructive hurricane ever to hit the United States, with worldwide damages estimated at $32 billion. As the third most expensive US hurricane of all time, Ike affected several countries including Cuba, Haiti, and the US, and is responsible for nearly 195 deaths. Many in the United States are unaware of the severity of the damages in Texas and the surrounding areas due to low national media attention when the storm hit.
Hurricane Ike's surge destroyed the levee along the Sabine River near Orange, Texas where Superior Tire has one of their five locations. Floodwaters from Ike were reportedly as high as eight feet causing widespread damage across the coast of Texas. Superior Tire reported five feet of flood water in their Bridge City store in Orange County. Many Superior Tire employees lost their homes and all of their belongings. The business lost one of its stores completely. Shortly after the storm in 2008, ASA Tire Systems contributed to the relief efforts of their long-time ASA client, by collecting and donating a pallet of supplies and shipping them from their New Hampshire headquarters directly to Superior Tire. What was not used by the Superior Tire employees and their family was donated to the American Red Cross.
In a continued effort to help Superior Tire rebuild their business, ASA Tire Systems has granted them $25,000 of the Tire Dealer Million Dollar Bailout Program. These monies will be used to update and strengthen their technology infrastructure as they continue to rebuild their business in the post-Ike devastation.
Mike Hughes, of Superior Tire & Service, says "Getting up and running with major damage at two stores including five feet of water in our Bridge City location was a challenge. To have our software company, ASA, step up and help with a generous amount to offset some computer-related expenses was a blessing. The money they set aside to help tire dealers get through our uncertain economy, and in our case Hurricane Ike, was a well-timed effort on ASA's part and we thank them."
Wayne Croswell, president of ASA Tire Systems, said, "We feel that all of our customers are a part of our family. In the wake of Ike, we learned about the devastation that Superior Tire employees and their families faced, many losing everything and having 'not even a toothbrush' left. Without hesitation or request, our staff banded together to collect and ship much-needed supplies to Superior Tire, who then shared them with their community. Today, we are fortunate to be able to continue to help them rebuild their business in other ways by awarding them part of this fund."
ASA has received 200 applications and has granted almost 30% of the fund to date. Dealers can apply for the remaining funds via the ASA Tire Systems website, www.asatire.com/bailout, by filling out a form, or by contacting an ASA representative directly at 603-889-8700.
